BBC6 Music Prom-a review

After months of planning, promotion & rehearsal, the day of the BBC6 Music Prom had finally arrived. The band had rehearsed with the London Sinfonietta at the legendary Abbey Road studios on Saturday, fine tuning the specially arranged orchestral accompaniment to two of their best known songs with full orchestra. There were promotional duties too and Jet & JJ were both interviewed before the actual gig on Monday night at the Albert Hall for Prom 40.

 Despite being aware that the band’s set that night was to be brief, there was a very good turnout from the familyinblack who had travelled from far and wide, with many familiar faces in attendance. Fans were eager to be present at this groundbreaking event…

Intoduced by Steve Lamacq, The Stranglers opened the Prom proceedings with a performance of No More Heroes accompanied by the London Sinfonietta. Singer/songwriters Cerys Matthews and Laura Marling followed, with each of the artists’ performances being interspersed with the orchestra playing some contemporary classical music pieces. To close the event, the band returned for unaccompanied versions of Duchess and Always The Sun before being rejoined by the orchestra for the finale, a radical rethink of Golden Brown. The band then gathered at the front of the stage for the rousing applause, finishing off a very memorable evening at this iconic venue. Yet another first for The Stranglers…
