The album was the first to be recorded after the departure of singer Paul Roberts and the band’s return to their original four piece format. Suite XVI illustrates how well JJ & Baz’s writing partnership had gelled in the preceding years with the pair sharing both writing and vocal duties on the album. The album displayed all the hallmarks of The Stranglers’ sound but also showed the diversity of their recorded output, featuring a variety of musical styles from full-on punk to country and western! Recorded in studios in Somerset, the album was produced by Louie Nicastro. Two singles were released from the album, firstly Spectre Of Love and then Unbroken.
